Wildlife Exploration
About 100 km south of Diego Suarez, Ankarana is a dramatic limestone
plateau known for its razor-sharp Tsingy formations, deep caves, and underground
rivers. The reserve is rich in biodiversity, home to crowned lemurs, bats,
reptiles, and even the elusive fossa. Visitors can explore trails leading to the
famous "Perte de Riviere" (river sinkhole), suspension bridges, and sacred
caves. A full-day excursion is recommended, with early departure from Diego.
Sturdy hiking shoes, long sleeves, and sun protection are essential. Activities
include trekking, cave exploration, wildlife observation, and learning about
local legends and sacred sites.
